Zoya - Stevie and Beauty Q&A.

After a pretty long hiatus, the winter sun (or lack there of) is gone and I think I am ready to start blogging again. I had been messing with light box options but I still haven't found a set up I am 100% happy with. I have a ton of nail polish that has been used but un-swatched that has piled up over the winter so I should have plenty of material. On to the review!

When I first saw swatches of the Milani Texture collection and the preview for the China Glaze Textured collection I thought these textured polishes were horrible and possibly the worst nail polish trend ever. I felt pretty "meh" about the OPI Mariah Carey Liquid Sands. But then I saw the Zoya Pixie Dusts which changed my mind completely, suddenly I had to have them! Then, the Bond Girls from OPI! I bought up 3 Zoya Pixie Dusts and 2 of the OPI's and I am not disappointed! I absolutely love them and plan on getting more of these textured polishes in the future (they are a bit pricey).

And now, the gorgeous Zoya - Stevie...
Color:  Zoya - Stevie: $9 Zoya.com & Ulta.
Base Coat: American Classics - Bridge the Ridge: $5.99 Sally Beauty Supply (my new favorite base coat).

Zoya - Stevie (Artificial Light)
Zoya - Stevie (Natural Light)

I am not completely happy with the light box photos because I think the lighting is a bit too harsh, I still prefer the natural daylight. Daylight pic taken after I broke the corner off of a nail, of course.

I answered a Beauty Q & A survey that you can read if you are interested after the jump!

Allowing Commenters to Back Link - Helpful or Hurtful?

I know I haven't posted in forever, but the winter sun doesn't really provide me any decent swatches and I have no idea how to set up any indoor lighting that will even be comparable to the color accuracy that natural (spring/summer/fall) sunlight provides.

Anyway, I've come across a topic that interests me that I think would be a good topic for blogger discussion. A lot of bloggers are pretty hostile towards commenters that provide links to their own blog. While it's really up to the blogger (it's their blog afterall), there are definitely benefits to the commenter who leaves their link but does it help the blog that the link is hosted to?

Bloggers are right to be wary of link spam, we've all seen it on our own blogs and had to block Anonymous commenters and/or require commenters use word verification to prove they are human.
Link spam that link to shady websites with scams or websites that link to people trying to sell you things can lower your google rating and result in a lower reputation for your blog overall. Allowing links in your comment section would require you check each link personally to make sure it isn't spam.

After browsing the web, bloggers seem to be very unclear whether comments help their blog in any way or not. It does, however, greatly benefit the comment poster who provides a back-link to their own blog or website. Most search engines, since about 1997 have been using an algorithm to rank websites by a mixture of key words and back links. This means the more sites that link to your site (individual blog posts and social media websites included), the higher you will show up on the search list for someone who searches for key words used on your post. The keywords come from words that actually appear on your website, tags are very helpful for this. The exception to this algorithm of course, are the sponsored links that require only key word matches and a decent sum of advertising cash.

Although Google may or may not have been the first to use SEO (Search Engine Optimization), they are certainly the company that made it most popular and changed search engines forever. If you care to remember, before google, web search results usually amounted in a whole lot of sponsored websites and adult websites. Google was even originally named "BackRub" for it's use of back-links to rank search results.

There is at least one option to help the blogger allow their commenter to somewhat safely back-link to their own blog, and this is called CommentLuv. From what I have gathered so far, this is somewhat easy to install on WordPress.

To use Comment Luv for blogger, you can follow this tutorial - Social Media Sasas: CommentLuv for Blogger. I'm attempting setting this up right now.

Note: I used the blog link above to install Intense Debate on Blogger and the only thing I had to find out myself was how to enable ComLov as a plugin. After installing Intense Debate on my blog, I went to Sites (tab on the top) and selected my site. Then I clicked Plugins (tab on the side) and found CommentLuv and hit the "activate" link to the left of it. On my next blog post (this one), ComLuv was enabled.

So, what do you think? Do you allow links in comments on your blog? Do you think it's helpful or hurtful to your blog?

I'm not sure if it's helpful to me, personally. But, I know commenters appreciate it and I appreciate ComLuv on other sites, so I have chosen to allow back-links.
Feel free to back-link to your blog in comments. :)

Color Club - Cloud Nine

Holo! It was sunny and warm on Saturday so I knew I had to do a holo!

This is Color Club - Cloud Nine from the Halo Hues collection, it was very expensive for a color club polish but less than half the price of the Layla Hologram effect polishes for the same amount of holo.
The formula was fantastic, I could have gotten away with 1 coat, but I used two, it's so holographic Seche doesn't even dull the effect. It dried very quickly. The only complaint I have is, much like the first round of Layla Holograms, the colors are very pale and not very pigmented, I would have settled for a little less holo and more color. :)

Color:  Color Club - Cloud Nine: $6.95 TransDesign.
Top Coat: Seche Vite - Dry Fast Top Coat: $4.50 TransDesign, $8 Sally Beauty Supply, $10.
Base Coat: Orly - Bonder: $5.32 TransDesign, $7.49 Sally Beauty Supply & CVS.

Zoya - Carly

Join us on November 8th to stand against bullying! We will be posting purple manicures on our blogs to represent our commitment to the movement. We ask you to join us! All are welcome: Do purple nail art, or purple make up, or purple crafts for the day, or whatever else you’d like to do.

Copy the following statement to your blog, and check back here on Thursday for an Inlinkz code to also post on your blog!  (Inlinkz code will allow us to have a collective list of blogs participating)Bullying is not funny. It is not cool. It is not right. And more importantly, it is not okay.
Most of us are, thankfully, residents of countries that support tolerance and many of our families have settled in these places simply for that reason. Generations later, it is our responsibility to perpetuate that message of tolerance across our new social platforms, including the internet.

As members of the nail polish blogging community, we all share a love of beauty, color, and lacquer. Other than that, we are remarkably different: from our race to our religion to our hair color...even to our polish application techniques. To marginalize anyone because of those differences is completely unacceptable and today I take a stand against that. I refuse to allow other people's view of "normal" dictate how I behave, believe, and blog.

In solidarity with a multitude of bloggers linked below, my purple manicure represents my proud commitment to the No H8 movement. Today, November 8, I dedicate my post to ending bullying of any kind and to encouraging diversity and imperfection among our colorful community.

My purple mani is Zoya - Carly. I swear she was purple in the bottle, hopefully she is not too red-toned to fit in. :) I used Orly's "Matte Top" matte top coat, and I've only used it a couple times before since I ran out of my China Glaze - Matte Magic. I've now confirmed that I'm really not a fan of the Orly version, it's not matte enough for me, it's great if you want a satin finish though!

It's also technically November 9th, but I haven't gone to bed yet so it's still the 8th to me, lol. ^_^

Color:  Zoya - Carly: $8 Zoya.com and Ulta.
Top Coat: Orly - Matte Top: $5.32 TransDesign, $7.49 Sally Beauty Supply & CVS.
Base Coat: Orly - Bonder: $5.32 TransDesign, $7.49 Sally Beauty Supply & CVS.

Enchanted Polish - Hey Jude

Here is another polish I ordered from Llarowe by Enchanted Polish.

This is called Hey Jude, it is part of The Beatles collection. I really love that Enchanted Polish did a Beatles collection because I love The Beatles! I grew up on this music, my dad used to blast The Beatles and Grateful Dead on the stereo when my mom was gone and me and my sisters would run around and dance and bang on anything. My dad would also sing us Beatles songs as lullabyes, I think my favorite ones to sleep to were Bungalow Bill and Rocky Raccoon. Although Hey Jude is not even close to the top of my list of favorite Beatles songs, it is a classic. I much prefer The White Album. :)

Anyway, less on The Beatles and more on this beautiful color! I would describe it as an iridescent scarab/peacock green that shifts into a cool grey/purple with fine, scrattered holographic glitter. If the description doesn't sound amazing enough, check out the pics! The formula was great, I used 2 coats(could have used one) over black.

Color:  Enchanted Polish - Hey Jude: $13 EnchantedPolish.com, Llarowe & Harlow & Co.
Base Color:  Essie - Licorice: $8 Walgreens, Target $6 TransDesign.
Top Coat: Seche Vite - Dry Fast Top Coat: $4.50 TransDesign, $8 Sally Beauty Supply, $10.
Base Coat: Orly - Bonder: $5.32 TransDesign, $7.49 Sally Beauty Supply & CVS.

And of course the matching earrings and a better shot of the cheshire earrings.
Both can be made in 8mm heart, 8mm round, 10mm round and 12mm heart upon special request.

Crows Toes - Cheshire

Haiii!
I'm back!
Today I have a beautiful polish for you that I actually put on 2 nights ago, but it has been so gloomy I haven't been able to get a decent picture of it. I heard a rumor that Crows Toes - Cheshire was going to be retired and it's one I had my eye on for quite some time. Anyway, I didn't want to risk missing it, so I broke my no-buy and got it!

Ignore the shrinkage/tip wear it's from the Seche Vite and 2 days of wear. This is not a fresh mani!
The formula was great, it was even more beautiful in person than it is in pics because it actually has some small hex holo glitter in it. I opted to use American Classics - Gelous under the Seche Vite because some of the glitter is very large and I had a feeling it would just eat up the Seche Vite. I will definitely buy from Crows Toes again. :)

Color:  Crows Toes - Cheshire: $13 from Llarowe.
Base Color:  LA Colors - Metallic Purple.
Top Coat 1: American Classics - Gelous: $5.49 Sally Beauty Supply.
Top Coat: Seche Vite - Dry Fast Top Coat: $8 Sally Beauty Supply, $10.
Base Coat: Orly - Bonder: $5.39 TransDesign, $7.49 Sally Beauty Supply & CVS.

These are the earrings I made to go with the mani! These are available by custom request at LuchaKitty.com. You can email me at lauryn.lofgren@gmail.com and I can whip up a pair for you in 8mm heart, 8mm round, 10mm round or 12mm heart for you in a custom order. :)
